The World Cup Challenge VI
& Giant Jackpot

Hyatt Regency Istanbul / Turkey
7th – 16th January 2000

The Turks had to wait 8 years for a fellow country man, Engin Öngel, shows the winner´s trophy of Istanbul high to the paticipants of the prize giving. Engin Öngel, a lecturer in physics and maths, living in London, beat Karsten Bolge from Denmark in the final by 25-21.
But this wasn´t the only reason for cheers by the Turks. The doubles tournament was also dominated by Turkey. First and second place went to a Turkish team.
The Giant Jackpot went to, almost like every year (three out of four!), Jerry Grandell, the backgammon super star from Sweden.

The hotel Hyatt Regency Istanbul lies in the European part of Istanbul near the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn in the part of the city that is called Taksim. From here you can have a look at the Bosphorus and at the Asian side.
